Understanding hospice billing rules correctly is essential for ensuring providers receive the full reimbursement they are eligible for.

This video from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is designed to help hospices understand the Service Intensity Add-On (SIA) payment. Hospice providers receive a standard daily rate for each enrolled patient, which applies regardless of how many services are delivered on a given day, including days when no services are provided. However, under hospice benefits, an additional hourly payment may be billed for registered nurse and social worker visits provided during the final seven days of a patient’s life, on top of the regular daily reimbursement.
